Money Well Wasted

Recently I moved to full time insulin. I now take one injection of Lantus per day and Apedra before meals. I've been counting carbs for three years, so I feel like an expert already. My doctor started me on a very low dose so that I wouldn't bottom out with any lows. So far my lowest has been 61.

When I filled my prescription for Apedra I also filled the prescription for Glucagon. This is an emergency injection used to save me life. I personally will never inject myself with this - it is only to be used if I pass out from low blood sugar levels. With insurance it cost $25 for this injection. It expires after one year.

Part of me feels like this is a complete rip off. Most likely (knock on wood) I will never use this. I can feel when my blood sugar is low and eat something to raise it. However, this gives me the peace of mind that if something were to happen, I wouldn't die. For me that's worth $25 a year, and money well wasted (hopefully).
